Charles Gueli shares 4 quick Moving Tips that will help during the stressful time.
Make plans with a moving company four to six weeks before the move and arrange to move during the middle of the month. Those dates are typically less busy, and you are more likely to get a top-notch crew.
- If a mover requires you to pay a big deposit to “hold the dates” or “ensure prompt service,” choose another one. Don’t necessarily go with the low price, especially if it is significantly lower than your other estimates.
- Don’t use any kind of tape directly on your furniture. Even masking tape will leave a residue from the adhesive on the wood. It’s very hard to get it off without ruining the finish of the furniture. You can use shrink wrap, bubble wrap, or packing blankets — then keep the packing material in place with tape, or elastic, or rope.
- This is also useful when the doors and/or drawers are left on a cabinet — although it is better to remove them, that’s not always done. When left on, they have to be secured in the closed position.
